On 11-13 May 2022, at the meeting room of the training center in Vang Vieng District, Vientiane Province, the Health Department of Vientiane Capital along with the National Center for Laboratory and Epidemiology (NCLE) collaborated with PSI Laos to hold a refresher training on the use of the District Health Information Database Software (DHIS2). The purposes of the training were to strengthen data collection, analysis, and how to apply the data for work, as well as to increase the efficiency of the district health officers. Staff from the Vientiane Capital Central Hospital and Military Hospital as well as district health officers from nine districts in Vientiane Capital attended the training. The event was co-chaired by Dr. Sayphone Nanthaphone, Head of Health Department of Vientiane Capital, Dr. Bouaphanh Khamphaphongphanh, Deputy Director of the NCLE, and Ms. Saysana Phanalasy, Country Director of PSI Laos. During the training, the attendees reviewed the strengths and areas for improvement when using the DHIS2, staff shared the issues they faced when working with the tool and discussed solutions. The staff also strengthened their skills in how to use the tool under the guidance of the trainers. The results from the refresher training showed that the participants were actively involved in how to implement the DHIS2 and were able to use it on their own. These training sessions were a great success in the surveillance of 18 notifiable diseases in Laos.Note: This training was conducted under strict measures to control and prevent a COVID-19 outbreak.
